"Insanely yours, Durandal." To celebrate Marathon's launch, I made a thing. I hope you like it. 🤙🏼 Marathon was my whole identity growing up. Some of my favorite memories of playing games with my Dad. I have a marble notebook (do people still use those?) that 2nd grade me filled cover to cover with a fan fic about my best friends and I being isekai'd up to the Marathon to fight the Pfhor and save the world. I drew the Marathon symbol on every piece of homework I ever turned in. I tried to learn Warhammer 40k so I could play Tau just because their symbol looked like the Marathon logo. I might have been a little obsessed. I can't express how important this IP is to me. And while I'm a sad that extraction shooters aren't really my thing, so my ability to enjoy it is limited, I care so much about seeing this title succeed, so that more people can fall in love with the thing that captured my imagination as a kid. And who knows, so that maybe I can find my way into it some day. Anyway, I wanted to pay tribute to one of my favorite characters – Durandal – with a reading from your first encounter with him in the original game. Lila was a lively, alert five-week-old baby when I last held her in my arms. Little did I imagine, as she gazed intently into my eyes with all the innocence and wonder of a newborn child, that she would die that night. She was never ill before receiving the hepatitis B shot. At her final feeding that night she was extremely agitated, noisy, and feisty, and then she fell asleep suddenly and stopped breathing. The autopsy ruled out choking. The New York medical examiner ruled her death sudden infant death syndrome, SIDS. But the New York medical examiner, Doctor Persichino, neglected to mention Lila’s swollen brain or the hepatitis B vaccine in the autopsy report. It was ignored. The coroner spoke to my wife and our pediatrician, and notes of the conversation were: “brain swollen, not sure cause yet, could not see how recombinant vaccine could cause problems.” SIDS is a diagnosis of exclusion—it wasn’t this, it wasn’t that, everything has been ruled out and we don’t know what it was. In other words, they don’t know. A swollen brain is not SIDS. Therefore we had a… we had a falsified pathology report. Through conversations with other experienced pathologists I subsequently discovered that brain inflammation is a classic adverse reaction to vaccination. Look it up in the Merck Manual—it’s the definition of a vaccine reaction.I set out to do an investigation of the Hep B vaccine and attended a workshop at the National Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices February meeting and a debate in New Hampshire. I also obtained the entire Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) database on hepatitis B vaccine reactions and have investigated thoroughly. These are my conclusions, supported by the following pages of text and analysis—that’s in my testimony, written testimony, which I submitted.Newborn babies are not at risk of contracting the hepatitis B disease unless their mother is infected. Hepatitis B is primarily a disease of junkies, gays, and promiscuous heterosexuals. The vaccine is given to babies because health authorities couldn’t get those risk groups to take the vaccine. Adverse reactions outnumber cases of the disease in government statistics. Nothing… nothing is being done to investigate those adverse reactions. And I stand here testifying on behalf of all the others who have had the same problem. Those adverse reactions include numerous deaths, convulsions, and arthritic conditions that occur within days after hepatitis B vaccination. The CDC is misrepresenting hypothetical estimated disease statistics as real cases of the disease. The ACIP recommended new vaccines for premature infants without having scientific studies proving it is safe. I submitted an… FOIA—Freedom of Information—request to the CDC along with the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons. Jane Orient, who was the head of it—they never responded, they never gave us the data saying that there were studies proving this was safe to give to newborns. The U.S. vaccination recommendation process is hopelessly compromised by conflicts of interest with vaccine manufacturers who make huge profits and the Academy—American Academy of Pediatrics—and the CDC. Conclusion: If, as with the original rotavirus vaccine which was pulled after a handful of adverse reactions, the hepatitis B vaccine was recommended originally without scientific proof that it was safe in a broad sample of racially and genetically diverse babies less than 48 hours old before they established that recommendation, then the CDC has been experimenting on babies like guinea pigs, and this committee should suspend that universal at-birth immunization policy. Bong Joon-ho on the "American-bashing" in 'The Host' (2006) & why he was surprised by the film's success: "Cineaste: Why did you put so much political subtext into 'The Host' (2006)? Do Korean audiences like that? Bong Joon-ho: It’s fun for me to bury my political comments here and there in a film, but this is also part of the tradition of the monster or sci-fi genre. It was a double blessing for me to convey some political commentary in the film and have it work within a genre. For instance, the opening scene, when the two scientists are pouring chemicals into the Han River refers to an actual event that took place six years ago. But at the same time it’s a very typical monster movie opening. So for me it was great to hit both at the same time. It’s not like I’m putting raw social commentary in the film. It is integrated into the entertainment value of the film. Some Koreans believe that 'The Host' (2006) is a moving family story; others say, “Wow, we’re totally bashing America!” But there are more of the former. Cineaste: Is there a lot of “America bashing” in Korean films? Bong Joon-ho: Some films do to some extent, once in a while. But to quote a famous Korean critic: “This is Korea’s first legitimate anti-American film.” And she gave me four stars. Cineaste: Perhaps this may start a trend in Korean films. Bong Joon-ho: It would be hard for this to become a trend. When The Host first came out, some critics said that by drawing America in this satiric way, the film would limit its appeal to mass audiences, that the satire would make them uncomfortable. Of course, after it became such a big hit, critics reevaluated and said that the younger generation really likes those elements in the film. But overall, those elements weren’t the focus of the film.
