My 15 year old asked that culture question a few months ago. I told him he couldn’t see it because it was like the air. He spent three weeks in China over the summer. He gets what the culture is now.

It is hard to see one's own culture, it is the air we breathe and the sea we swim in. It can be done, but most people are not willing to do the work to identify it. Chinese culture is easy for us to see, as is South Asian -- but our own, is so much a part of us, most don't see it. Even when we speak of Western culture, that is hard to articulate from within for the same reasons. But our enemies, both within and without, can play play on people's ignorance...

That's awesome. Love that. She does a better job of explaining that than most Americans probably can or do.

American culture has been so successful, and so pervasive, that in the West it is barely noticed - like water to a fish. Other cultures either look to it as a model because of the prosperity it produces, or else seek to undermine it out of resentment.

Yeah, a lot of problems people have is the US soft power has been globally dominate for 30+ years and they almost cannot tell it apart from their own, they even confuse US laws with their own countries laws like freedom of speech, which most countries don't actually protect.

What is European culture? It's curry and hijabs. They used to have culture but they allowed north African and south Asian migrants to replace it with their own.

I did a long article for my job once interviewing a handful of british/irish medical students. All of them said, "The news made me scared to be here, but now that Im here this is the best place ever with the greatest culture." So!

@gaye_gallops It’s wonderful to hear from an immigrant who shares what we all know to be true. Unfortunately, many citizens don’t feel our pride. They’re missing out on a magnificent life that we experience. It’s their loss, but we must defend our America from those who want to destroy her.

All of these things were built on freedom and liberty. It must be defended at all costs or everything is lost.

We also carry different cultures and traditions with us from our forefathers, some of the last remains of certain cultures can and will be found in America. We will preserve many dying cultures, maybe not exactly the same, but change comes, so the best we can do is respect our past and be genuine in the present.

I remember a german guy in a bar In Jakarta, Indonesia saying something similar that america doesn't have any culture. But guess what? The name of the bar we were in was called the chicago bar and grill!
