never like that IDW Sonic suddenly believes that EGGMAN of all people is capable of change, especially since both of their dynamics are reliant on the fat that they BOTH can never change who they are

It's a mutual thing. They both try and fight to have their way of life and the other tramples on theirs so they fight a lot despite being a little fond of each other. Eggman likes Sonic pushing his genius to improve, Sonic loves the thrill. Hope this summary works for you

You can also tell that Eggman missed being defeated by Sonic cause he was MIA for some time at that point in the anime. He even laughs histerically at the end.
