Grandpa had a coal burning furnace in the living room. During Christmas visits I hogged the chair closest to it. Sweating on one side and freezing on the other. That heat did not make it to the bedrooms which had no insulation . This house was built in the 1800s.

Never lie about hospitality comfort! My own grandma taught all her grandkids about it, except using a hot or cold bath as an example. She said that if we lie about our comfort, then she won’t really know our true selves and preferences. We tell it truthfully and lovingly.

What is it with old people and needing it to be roasting in their living spaces at all times

My wife’s grandpa had their wood stove going so damn hot you could feel the heat before you walked into the house

But the food was good though them wood stoves always make the best foods when your cooking on em

Unfortunately, I never got to meet either of my grandmothers. One passed 5 months before I was born and the other lived up in Michigan and sadly never visited me. Met both of my grandfathers though!

I love my grandma. I'm a tall fella and she didn't have a guest bed so I had to sleep on a couch but the couch was tiny so my legs were dangling off. She asked if I slept good and I said yeah. But boy my back was sore haha I miss her.
