i made a website that turns sound into cymatic star patterns, using midi data as input to threejs

this is live at there's a dozen games and music visualizers published there you can play with microphone or midi input, so it works with guitar, piano, singing, etc.

too bad it's fake and not audio reactive as you make it out to be, you cycle through a couple of the same patterns when input is registered either through midi, or audio transients. it's easy to spot, because it shows the same patterns on a chord that is played low, and the same exacy pattern shows up when you play a single note that is up high. and you also play the same chord twice, yet the pattern changes.

it's not perfect, but it definitely isn't "fake" each chord is mapped to a different pattern. it doesn't distinguish between octaves, so a low C is the same as a high C playing the same chord again (D after D) keeps the same patterns but adjusts the resonance values slightly

when a single note shows the same pattern as a chord, idk man, pretty fake.

Aaaaa you make me want to pick up an instrument and learn it asap

2026 is a wonderful year to play music :]

so coolllll!

thank you, more music+code experiments are coming soon

Do you realize that you actually have to do concerts sir????

i would loveee to one day :]

You’ve already got a show program 🤌

im just vibing to the radiohead at the start but this is sick

this sounds like Boards of Canada in the best way 😍

i take that as a huge compliment, one of my absolute favourite bands <3

would love to see a whole band do a concert w these visuals. maybe even have each instrument tied to its own visual to see how they all interact together during the performance very cool work!!

love that idea, gotta get a jam session together

Ajajaj! Like when it’s moving fast at the beggining and then calm down.

You just need more data, awesome idea though, can't wait to see where it goes

I love that I asked my dad to help me make this a few weeks ago and someone has already done it!!! Feels like instant delivery from the universe, thank you!!!!! 🧡🧡🧡

built a slick app and likes Radiohead? Instant follow.

radio-heads unite!!

@zpfTechnologies This is awesome

@Zetaisrising if one sent you a series of cymatics, could you recognize the melody ? Isn't it a universal music coding anyone could decipher and listen to ?

@threejs Sick

Beautiful work mate!

thank you my captain

Nice. Would be interesting to see how accurate it is by comparing the output with real cymatic patterns generate by the same sounds.

welcome back Winamp

we must resurrect and protect winamp at all costs

why would it use midi data instead of audio?

Looks awesome, great work!!

@artale93 Near

This is cool! Would love to run this through modern hip hop to see bow the cymatics are

ty! here it is:

@hmalviya9

So. Cool! Can u share the link?

ty! here it is:

Great! Keep up the amazing work

⚡️🧿

@macrocrux I'm sure you will appreciate it

Wild! Now my brain is stuck on dropping whole track midi arrangements into this bad boy and BOOM - unique indecision visualizers per track! 😳🤯

thank you!! yea you can use mic / midi / audio file input to this :]

This is awesome 👏

another oneee

thank you Jonas, more experiments are underway as we speak

excited to feature them and see!

This is so sick 🔥. Gamifying chord practice is such a smart way to stay motivated, and those cymatic patterns look absolutely mesmerizing

music = universe

I can make cymatics in a cup! Any recs on frequencies that I should try?

is that spirited away

it's the opening chords of Everything in it's right place by Radiohead !

@m_zokov , your techno thing
