Florida weatherman: Over my 34 years, confidently, I went on TV and told you, the storm will turn. I'm not sure I can do that this year because of the cuts and the attack on science. Central and South Florida National Weather Service offices are currently 20 to 40% understaffed. There's a chance that NOAA hurricane hunter aircraft will not be able to fly this year. With less reconnaissance we may be flying blind and not know how strong a hurricane is before it reaches the coastline

This is Anna Maria Island, near Tampa, after Helene. A complete loss- looks like a bomb went off. The residents didn’t have time to clear this debris before having to evacuate again for Hurricane Milton, which will be a major hurricane when it hits on Wednesday. Heart breaking.
