I made Tinkerble, an open source macOS companion app for live-tinkering properties in your SwiftUI app. Just replace any @State with @TinkerbleState, then adjust strings, numbers, colors, toggles, and enums live.

love it, DialKit for macOS! Thank you for building this 🙏

@rudrank Wow. So nice

@rudrank Thank you man! Means a lot coming from you!

YouTube version here:

@ChristianSelig Imagine having that directly in Xcode Previews for all the state properties detected in a View (or # Preview). Could be a dynamically generate side panel in Xcode previews with UI controls to update the values.

@ChristianSelig I’d love that! And now on device hub too, which has a handy inspector panel that would be perfect for this.

@ChristianSelig Yep Previews + DeviceHub. It reminds me of this WWDC23 video with a sidebar used to live update the UI state ⬇️

@ChristianSelig lol yeah just message @philipcdavis about this! Huge inspiration that talk!

@mufasaYC hfs this rules

@mufasaYC Had to look up HFS and was pleased with the results. lol thank you - let me know if you try it and have any issues!! 😄

@mufasaYC lmfaowtfbbq

@mufasaYC Just thinking crazy thoughts out loud.. might also be neat as a separate window/scene thing in the same app binary for testing on device like iPad or AVP

oh wow. this sounds amazing!

Ahh, so good. I need this!

This is super neat

@ChristianSelig This is so cool @edwardsanchez

Gorgeous work Edward!

Thank you!! If you get to use it let me know how it goes. Needs some onboarding polish still.

This looks cool! Thanks for sharing

@ChristianSelig this is sooo goood i love it! amazing Edward

This is awesome!

awesome to see!!

Finally did it!! 😄 Thanks!

holy that's huge!

@flyosity This is so cool

@flyosity Thanks man! If you try it, let me know if you run into any issues. 😊

@flyosity sure thing man, will give it a try 🙌

This feels like a natural extension of playgrounds. Love it

well this is going to come in handy, amazing work!

Very nicely done! Congrats.

That’s amazing! I’m always fine tuning parameters when polishing animations or behaviors. This looks super helpful!

This is cool as hell, nice work!

This could totally blow up, if we have a tinkerble skill that makes the agent create custom modifiers for each component during code generation. fixed modifiers are so last gen - making custom necessary ones are much more valid!

Just in time, I'm dying with SwiftUI

finally we have leva on apple platforms 🙏🏽 i’ve struggled w it for a long time (also it’d be nice to have the in-app version as well) it’s crazy how apple ecosystem devs managed to live without all the neat things (and the ones they have cost crazy amounts of ram/cpu)

@ekurutepe does it write the tinkered values back into source, or live-only? the dream is tweak a color/number live, land on the one you like, and have it commit without me retyping it.

@ekurutepe Currently it does not. Can’t think of a way it could do that easily but worth investigating for sure!

@siglesias Incredible work! 🔥

I'm new to Xcode, can you give more examples of the types of properties this could be used for?

Numbers strings enums bool colors. That’s it right now

🔥

This is great! Should be included with Xcode

I tried 😄

Thanks for trying 😂

This is great, well done!

Can you do this with the Apple Text Recognition in Vision framework instead?

This is awesome! I could easily see this as something you add to a debug menu or a component library to let designers tweak stuff before finalising a feature.
