In real life there would be no argument. It's too late. The first person who saw that would have reported it and surgery would have been canceled. Period. At that point there is no point in stopping her, it's too late, there is food in her stomach. They get pissed if you even have a big drink of water.

She's suffering a breakdown because she's likely to die on the table from a cancer she thought she was preventing by living a "healthy", but not a full, life. That's the point. She's beyond caring, because her sense of control over her health is shattered.
