It happened to me as well last December. Lost an intercontinental flight due to this, and had to pay expenses for a whole new flight (outbound and inbound). If you loose the flight check with your airline since they have to cancel the outbound flight so you can still use the way back.

Air travel is such a mess. I’ve never seen anything like it. People on TikTok people on here constantly complaining about canceled about getting bumped off of first class. Just the whole process is almost if they don’t want you to travel or is all DEI.

Should be alright. ESTA is a near-automated process. I was on a US inspection team at Manchester airport several years ago, and a number of x-fer pax arriving from Africa were submitting their ESTA in the airport and made their US connection. Hope it's still that quick!
