ukranians tend to raise their pitch at the end of sentences and words whereas Spaniards lower their pitch, so the speaking pattern is a bit diff. If they spoke in the same pattern then maybe?

I think you could make a stronger argument for Portuguese and Ukrainian - a lot of soft SH sounds in both languages. I used to have to do a double take back in Toronto hearing Portuguese, thinking it might be Ukrainian. (I know Ukrainian, am learning Spanish).

I'm learning Russian and have spent a lot of time around Ukrainians. honestly if we're looking for languages that sound oddly similar its Russian and Portuguese

People who are saying they sound similar are reacting to the cadence and the rhythm, not to the actual sound of the individual words.
