I posted this young man doing this drill yesterday. These frames, controlling the forward move, staying back while going forward, (the young man has been working on, this) are the key. Aaron wasn’t getting this move down. It was his first time against the machine.

If Aaron was doing this move, he’d have no problem with the drill.

The controlled forward is present.

The video of him doing the drill is dated 2/26. The video of him controlling his move is dated 8/22. Listen to him talk about the importance of staying on your rear leg AS you go forward. KEY WORD IS AS

Same move. THIS……IS TIMING. Regardless of your tempo.

Let’s call it a drift forward AS you coil. Hold the lead leg up. Don’t let it come down. It will. But your goal is to not let it. The ball of the rear femur is coiled around AS it drifts forward. You can launch early in the drift for the fastball. You can launch in the middle of the drift for the slider. You can launch late in the drift for the changeup. Look for the off speed pitch in this video. He gets further forward in the drift. Still barrels the ball. Excellent control. The. Cheat. Code.

He doesn’t know if or when I’ll flick the ball into the wheels. That’s the fastball. If I let it roll down the ramp, that’s the changeup. IF YOU HAVE CONTROL OF THE FORWARD MOVE THE DRILL IS EASY. If not the drill is nearly impossible.

100% of the players that come to me can not do this drill successfully. That includes all the major leaguers. Then…..they can. After they learned control.

In fact….a veteran in the big leagues says…. “I can’t believe I’ve been in the big leagues for 10 years and no one has ever shown me this before.”

What is missing in this video? The drift.

The sooner you avoid ‘get the foot down’ training the sooner you’ll get to your potential.

These frames are WAY more important than the swing. When you learn these frames the swing is automatic. You can’t screw it up. It becomes ‘see ball hit ball’ Good decision = barreled ball. Without these frames….YOU…..are making a very hard thing to do…harder
