What makes Larry David so funny? 1. Strong opinions are funny. Lukewarm ones aren't. 2. All good comedy comes from character. 3. Good comedy comes from a character's ignorance or stupidity. 4. Your character's goal should never be to make the audience laugh. The character's goal should be to say something truthful, from their own perspective. 5. So then... why is Larry David funny? He's not trying to make people laugh. He just shares his strong opinions about the world, which happen to be funny. Here's a clip from my interview with Michael Jamin. The comedian isn’t a religious leader and a religious leader isn’t a comedian. The comedian has to live in moment to moment truth without reservation. Other jobs should not do that or they aren’t doing their job. This clip was a few years before the rimjob/Andrew Wilson meltdown about the trinity. I can’t say I understand or believe something that I don’t and be a comedian. It’s not my job to toe the line of any dogma. I’m not the source of truth, I can be and am wrong sometimes but when I’m wrong I can’t know I’m wrong while I’m saying it or I lose my ability to do comedy. It isn’t something I can bargain with its absolute. It’s why I never stopped saying any of the naughty words or gave a pass to any groups. A hypocritical comedian instantly becomes a media personality or a lobbyist. And you can do those jobs because by the definition of that job you are going to be pushing an agenda not truth. And that’s ok. Just don’t pretend otherwise. I never have and I never will.

They featured a trumpet out front that gave it that mariachi-band sting sitting on top of a funk band, a blues band, and a deadpan vocal. They never did pick a lane. That tells you they were onto something. Fun. Funny. Unpredictable. Same years as the flannel. Completely different room. They’re on tour this fall and I got my tix. So now we’re shocked when an entire generation freezes the second something goes off-script. Here’s the real debate: Do we blame the kids? Do we blame the system that raised them? You know, you won’t get these types of setups when a market’s doing this or this, right? Or this. You won’t get stocks like that. But once we start trending higher—you know—the 10-day starts turning up, the 20-day starts trending up, the 10-day goes above the 20-day… you gotta pay attention.
