Brother, you`re preaching to the choir here.....just had spinal surgery-3 herniated discs removed-and the quick recovery was a fantasy. May take 6 months to get back to where I`m fully recovered. Good luck.

I'm awfully sorry to hear that, Phil. I had my fingers crossed that once you left the hospital, things would taper off back to normal. Re: nerves—if you aren't sure where certain pain is originating from, may I suggest getting a box of Deep Relief (Actiflex) patches from the pharmacy? Put one directly over your lumbar spine while lying down and see how it goes over 30 to 60 minutes (stay as still as possible). I have L4–L5/S1 facet pain causing nerve issues, but at the same time, epidural lipomatosis at L2–L3, L3–L4, and L4–L5 cord irritation effectively "jumps" over this problem constantly—causing numbness, claudication, and radicular pain in both legs. I get the numb pain near the buttocks occasionally, but otherwise it affects bladder/bowels, etc. Neurology still has a long way to go to map out the nervous system, especially the spine. Given my situation as a full-time single parent, I'm sorry I can't donate right now, but I will gladly share this post.

I had 2 disc's removed from my spine in 1999, I've since had 3 more operations trying to stop the constant pain I have lived with since. It's now 27 years living on daily painkillers and sleeping pills to get me through each day, I don't need any sympathy, it is what it is.

Dear Phil,sorry to hear you are still in pain.I had a ALIF L5S1 & still had pain, weakness & numbness.Turns out the nerves in my SI joint & pudendal nerve were injured during surgery. I decided to see a Pain Doctor who performed Radiofrequency Ablation & I got instant relief.

This is helpful, thank you, Angie. They are saying that the pudendal nerve was probably injured during surgery.

Thoughts and prayers raised continuously for the Lord's provision for you both. 🙏

I’ve had two spinal operations. Both worked for a long while but now I have a spinal cord stimulator as I’ve lived with chronic pain for 11 years. I’ve been diagnosed with failed back surgery syndrome. Your recovery will be long and it’s hard. Try Hydrotherapy and acupuncture.
