I released a game yesterday! Here is a little thread about it.

I started working on it at the beginning of December. It was initially for a @gamemakersis game jam. The theme was "lights" and when falling asleep one day I had this idea controlling a character one limb at a time in a laser grid like Catherine Zeta-Jones in Entrapment (1999).

I took the character from A Firm Handshake and hooked up some interactions. I wanted it to be have 3D movement at first but moving the limbs on multiple axes would have required a much more complicated interface and I think you would need that to be able to do anything in 3D.

As soon as I had a version where the body was constrained to 2 dimensions I could feel that this had a lot of potential. It was already fun to try to figure out how to make him stand and move forward.

Constraining the limb angles also did a lot to make the character feel more real and also made the problem solving more interesting. I really liked the flat shaded look I started with but it make the character less readable, especially differentiating the right and left legs.

Adding these stairs was another moment where I felt this really starting to click. They look like such an insignificant obstacle and yet...

I have to go to a new years party now, will add more later. Happy new years, go play The Professional!

Do you have a final replay to enjoy the cool chorégraphy ?

I can already see some scam company use this for their mobile game ads.

lovely game

Please tell me that there's a fast forward of the run when you finish the level!
