I remember first seeing this scene and thinking, "Wow, how'd they do that??" And that's what's completely lost in the moviegoing experience these days. There's no "wow" because the answer's always "CG." 🥱

The lady is pregnant in the first shot, and when she shows up again at the end, she has had the baby. That’s pretty brilliant.

Why did Army veteran Jeff kill his wife, Kathleen West, after what he claimed were her unreasonable demands—and why did her parents take his side? Here’s the full story behind this tragic case 👇

I remember seeing this in the theater and feeling poleaxed by 1) The craft/artistry, the likes of which are so rare now; and 2) the fact I was sitting next to the only woman who's ever made me feel like Will does here. (Editor's note: They've since been married for 22 years.)

I stayed in Notting Hill for a month just after the movie finished shooting and my landlady told me about how they covered the road in fake snow for the scene - which I obviously hadn’t seen by that point because the movie wasn’t out yet

This scene is featured in my "101 Must-See Movie Moments" book. I love the different ways movies show the passage of time, and this is one of my favorites. Mindy Kaling did a nice tribute to it in her Four Weddings reboot.

There’s a lot of computer graphics (rain, leaves, snow, etc), morphing, retiming, combining of different pieces of photography and compositing in this shot. The shot couldn’t exist without digital work. So there’s that.

I disagree- I can see how they did it. The wow factor is in the work and dedication and the thousand things that work together to make the whole. You can still get that with CG sometimes! But you can’t with AI.

Who even plans shots like this now?

Apparently it was four different shots and they used "computer technology" to blend them. So in a way they did use CG.

I was on Portobello Road that day of filming. Parts of the street covered in white paper bits in the middle of A summer day, others dressed up as springtime. Very cool.
