I remember seeing a post a while back saying something along the lines of the Colonial Marines from Aliens have a SciFi grunt aesthetic that hasn't been topped yet Some designs have come close (UNSC Marines for instance) but I'm inclined to agree.

The Corporate RDA mercenaries in Avatar but that would just be James Cameron fighting himself lmao.

RDA are also up there aesthetically

Question for the Alien nerds, what do Colonial Marines fight other than Xenomorphs? Cause I would love a fucking urban combat environment with these dudes fucking up some rebels or some shit.

Human rebels ik they fight, I assume pirates & such as well.

James Cameron was well known for having a solid eye for design. He wanted them to feel like an military group that operates far out enough that they have more flexibility in there gears. A Vietnam, end of the tour style vibe i think he called it.

The combo of a SteadiCam and a MG42 alone to make the “smart gun” was a genius move that has never been topped.

The understatement of the tech is a big part. Much is implied by the wires, cam, MG rig and rattling plates but simply NOT covering them with Corsair LED lighting goes a long way for believability

I always love the little trivia that Cameron had the actors personally tag their armors so they would feel more authentic and lived in.

Required reading if you like the aestetique

Always loved the Colonial Marines aesthetic. I had my buddy @GC_Conceptart do some artwork for the Colonial Marines for an Aliens-Starship Troopers crossover Im working on cause he's always great with SciFi concepts. These are next gen successor models of their body armor & APC.
