Pretentious? Huh? It's Stanley Donen doing Stanely Donen imitating Hitchcock at his most lighthearted. WTH is pretentious about it? It pokes fun at Cary Grant's leading man at several points - the very beginning, when he gets humiliated by a child (shooting water in his face) and then when he takes the shower with his suit on. Also, the climax doesn't rely on any action-type leading-man athletic prowess. He simply has to pull the right lever at the right time to drop Walter Matthau's villain to the floor from the trap stagedoor and defeat the antagonist. The 3 villains are comic figures. The whole thing is delivered with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. It is a terrific film with terrific performances, direction, editing, costumes, color, and panache.

My preference is white men. I never knew it was a problem until about 15 years ago when a work colleague (who was white, in her 40s then) was perving over a black fella at a do and asked if I thought he was 'gorgeous' and I said "nope. Not my type." She took offense and make it a big deal. I am not offended when black men and women state their preference as black. It doesn't bother me in the slightest. This is a ridiculous reaction.

I feel like it's a role and a duty for that moment. Being on stage is a challenge that we, as actors or artists, have to interpret and deliver. Comparison is only the "thief of joy" when you lose the comparison. Comparison when I win is life fuel to me and keeps the fire in my soul alive. Today I found out with reasonable certainty that I am smarter than about 95% of people and it feels fucking great man. I am 6'4, 210 pounds, 125 IQ, socially competent (Neurotypical) and living in a nice warm healthy area, ...... etc If you are not better at anything considerably then your life is shit. It is and always will be about being better. When I feel low, I just compare my situation to other people below me and feel better. Sometimes I feel worse and then Ill try to change it or just not think about it People can call me a narcissist all they want but everybody thinks this way and Im the only person honest enough an in a good enough spot to speak about it Kick: hexumlite
