I’ve never been to the St. Louis Gateway Arch, and I honestly never really thought about how people even get to the top of it. This video made me realize what an engineering marvel that elevator actually is. Because the arch is curved, they couldn’t use a normal elevator, so they came up with these clever little capsules that rotate and tilt as they go up. It looks like you're riding in a tiny space pod. Even more interesting? The whole system was designed by a guy who didn’t even have an engineering degree. I also had no idea there was a museum inside.
