I saw this video on Instagram about a flyover which got opened a few days ago. When a new flyover is built to bypass towns, the local community should be provided with safe underpasses for pedestrians, road crossings etc. Otherwise, such risk-taking behavior will not stop. I’ve noticed similar... show more

India is a country of educated illiterates. No amount of infrastructure is sufficient without basic civic sense.

Exactly. Improper design is the primary cause for violations. Where such a need for school students to cross exists, the bridge design must have provided a safe passage. You cannot suddenly build a bridge and stop their free movement and claim that they're violators.

There are underpasses but you can't have an underpass at every 50meters below the flyover, it's just their laziness which is making them cross the highway illegally

Not just underpasses. The design should incorporate the behavior too. E.g. the pedestrians are on the bridge as that was a bus stop and buses now won't get off the flyover. Incorporate the bus stop in the design itself.

These kinds of engineers our universities are producing. Only 5-10% are employable. Engineers are increasingly expected to not just react to problems, but to anticipate future challenges and opportunities, requiring them to develop skills.

Its ok. Let there be a few deaths, then only the authorities will realise that they need footover bridges or underpasses. Moreover, people will also never use footover bridges. They prefer to die than to use them. So it is ok. I don't think this is an issue here in India.

A small box underpass also could be built to let bikers and pedestrians pass safely and easily but no. This country is not for common man.

The authorities do not care about pedestrians

I am sure there must be provision for crossing. Its all about change management, which our administration miserably fails to implement. They just leave public to die,as local people would continue to find ways to cross the roads from same spot.

Just because it is provided doesn’t mean the sheeple will use it

This is not acceptable at any cost.

Proper demarcated bus stops are the need as well When these flyovers pop up buses tend to bunch up at the entrance and exit of flyovers as opposed to going below to save time People are left right on the carriageway Super dangerous

I think mistake is from both side's. Thanks for the reservation for giving us scrap engineering and sending other to abroad. also ppl always like short cuts, ppl prefer to cross road though there is underpass nearby.

Under no circumstances should pedestrians feel the need to cross on a flyover. Very dangerous as vehicles may not expect them. Important to have safe crossing. Not just here, but on normal roads as well

Third world country with third rated engineers and corrupt and evil Babus will create this kind of mayhem.not single thought is given to pedestrian

This typ of scn can b seen throughout d nation, b'coz d designer lack d basics of footover bridge at d starting of d flyover, thinking dat no 1 will jump d barricade wall n cross, but d reality is different. B4 constructing 1, d authorities patiently wait for casualties.

Wonder that did they done any study or risk assessment ?

They don't even build FOB which is just a metal structure, can be erected overnight once sections are built.

Even if the local community in India is provided with underpass they will still use the highway to cross. That's the people mentality here and laziness to use the underpass.

M Mm M .m.m..m M Jn.ñ.ñ.n.jmjnu J J...y .. I ll ll in aa all

Even when u build foot overbridge there they will still cross this way only.

Underpasses don't help. The highway should be elevated and normal road with zebra crossing below should cater to pedestrians otherwise people won't use it. Underpasses end up turning into urinals in no time

Forget highways.. @OfficialBMRCL hasn't provided a decent crossing pathway between the jayadeva and the udupi garden stops.. What passageway was available, some these idiots welded shut... thousands of adults and school children cross this stretch..

Where i live, they build a flyover at the gate of passage that connect 5 big colonies. Now this is nh334(58old), this is super busy+ liquor stores are situated at starting of flyover. We can't cross road here, countless request for a underpass but no. People Life is not worthy

Until some Hindus die @NHAI_Official won’t improve their design. Poorly designed Highways are killing more Hindus than anybody else. @narendramodi @BJP4India

This is very scary and traffic then shohid not blame vehicles due to the public unlawful crossing of highway road. Traffic should seriously intervene and rectify this inconvenience to movement of vehicles

@NHAI_Official @nitin_gadkari they dont care for locals and pedestrians

This is where educating the public is essential in safe ways of using infrastructure. We need not teach the entire world, just spread the message in the local communities, schools etc. This is where we lack in India.

It must be there but laziness to go another 50 meters.

govt knows it but how do you mint more money? re release tenders. block newly constructed bridge. dig it, weaken it. reconstruct it. hoorayyy

I think that the engineer who gave the plan is a COVID 19 passout 😁😁😁

Gendu planners everywhere

At least they should have constructed a foot over bridge for the people to walk to cross that road
