Spot on. I am not a lawyer but this is standard practice in the US. You pay Lawyer per hour for consultation and hardly will you see any less than $100/hr.

The money he called is not too big for services in the UK sha. Also, UK lawyers handle certain cases on a "no win, no fee" basis. They even run advertisements for it. They also have a legal aid that supports people needing certain legal services.
