I didn’t get it either. I think it’s a combination of too much time watching narcissistic celebrities + knowing this is probably their last celebratory ceremony - most won’t marry or graduate from college. It’s too much. Families going into debt for a high school prom? Not sensible.

Prom is the black super bowl of the poor. This is the only accomplishment they will ever make (still can't read or write) other than having 6 bastard kids, living in Section 8 housing, having an EBT card or going to prison.

It's cosplay for them. Pretending to be something they aren't, and will never be. It's also trying to one-up their classmates by having nicer clothing, flexing more cash, and a more expensive rental car.

White people tend to think of their future. They have college and a future wedding to pay for. This is what you get when you live for the gratification of the moment. They don’t even realize this is going to cut into future bail/commissary money.

That’s a weird take cause I’m pretty confident I could go find my prom pictures from back in the day and we were all done up just like this happy as could be. We just didn’t have Twitter and my date was a black girl so that’ll give ya something for you all to be mad about.
