This is the first time in our country's history that a sitting President or Head of State has attended the inaugural mass of a new Pope. Over the weekend, I joined George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, at a town hall meeting and campaign in Nimo, Anambra Central Senatorial Zone. Together with the Obidient family, I fully support Dr. George Moghalu because his campaign manifesto places human development at the heart of governance. He is committed to strengthening security, advancing education, improving healthcare, and lifting our people out of poverty—at a time when the safety of lives and property, as well as the future of our children’s education, remain critical concerns. Above all, beyond competence, George Moghalu has consistently demonstrated capacity, compassion, and character—the essential values of true leadership. We are confident that under his guidance, Anambra will not only make progress but also achieve meaningful improvements in the human development index, securing a brighter and more dignified future for our people. Many think tank representatives are already working with our people and our military to find effective solutions. We appreciate this and count on continued support. During a meeting with the leaders of two Bundestag coalition factions, Jens Spahn and Matthias Miersch, we discussed financial and defense support for Ukraine, as well as the next steps in diplomacy. We are grateful to Germany for its leadership in supporting our people, especially for the Patriot systems and missiles, and IRIS-T systems – all of which are saving the lives of our people. We also spoke about further bolstering the protection of our skies. Separately, we discussed the importance of achieving a ceasefire and developing security guarantees. In recent weeks, Russia has shown no intention of being ready for a meeting at the level of leaders and has continued striking our people. That is why we count on Germany’s support in increasing pressure on Russia. Only strong actions can change Russian behavior.

We appreciate Italy’s active role in generating practical ideas and defining steps to bring peace closer. I briefed her on the work of our negotiating team, and we are coordinating our diplomatic efforts. We are counting greatly on Italy’s continued support – it matters for Ukraine. I also want to express my gratitude for the package of energy assistance, the necessary equipment – this is exactly what will support Ukrainian families, our people, children, and everyday life in our cities and communities, which continue to endure constant Russian attacks.
