I sometimes don’t understand American justice system. A thief stole a car from the owners house. He crashed the car due to bad brakes. Thief then sued the owner and gets $1.8 million. Does this sound fair?

This is how backward our justice system is in our Country. Bus driver chased a thief who had stolen a necklace from a woman, he got the necklace back & returned it to the woman.... the thief then came back, the woman was obviously scared so the driver stood in front of her. The thief went to throw a punch but the driver got in first.... he has now been sacked.... its all on cctv 😯🤷‍♀️
