Following the deadly shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by a federal agent in Minneapolis, protests have escalated in the city. CBS News Minnesota's Frankie McLister spoke with a man who was arriving to a protest. "I had to come down here and see the spoke and I just can't believe they shot him in cold blood," said the man, identified only as Mike.

They told the residents their village is now a "closed military zone," and ordered them to leave immediately. After the locals insistently refused to leave at night, the soldiers "allowed" them to stay until 1PM today, in two separate tents - one for the men, the other for the women - on the condition that as long as they're in the village, no one leaves the tents and no one moves between the tents. After they allowed the residents to stay, they forced one of the men to say in front of a camera that no one tried to expel them.

JUST IN: The family of Alex Pretti has retained the lawyers who helped prosecute the George Floyd case. The development comes as new footage appears to show Pretti spitting on federal officers and kicking their car last week. The parents of Pretti have retained Steve Schleicher, who served as a special prosecutor for Minnesota AG Keith Ellison, helping secure the conviction of Derek Chauvin. “Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital,” Pretti’s family said in a previous statement. “Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the hero term lightly. However his last thought and act was to protect a woman.”
