I started Game of Thrones thinking Sansa was super annoying because for so long, she just reacted to everything happening around her. But by the end, I absolutely loved her. She actually became my favorite character. Did you ever think she’d come this far!

I had my doubts whether Shizuru actually had feelings for Goh, but this episode made it crystal clear. He was her crush, not simply because he was tall and handsome and cool, but because he inspired her to become a sniper who never misses. She was awful at shooting at first and yet she pushed herself and became excellent at it because of him. I think her feelings for him grew steadily over time and just before she could ever confess, he got married. That must have been heartbreaking for her. I didn’t like how harshly she treated Anna, but watching her overcome her jealousy and sincerely accept Goh and Anna’s relationship made me truly love her character.

I never thought I was going to make a film out of it. But when I met her, she made me think about this story. So, I started thinking about it, maybe just subconsciously. I started to see that it could be possible- to see the character. And this is a story that, until you start to envision the character you don’t think that the character could actually exist. So when I met her I started to think about it- to elaborate on the story in my mind. And after a while I decided to make the film. When I wrote the film, I wrote it for her- I knew that Monica Bellucci would be Malena. That was extraordinary. I love writing knowing in advance who the actors are going to be. I LOVED this character. Lady Mormont was written as a decisive, brave, and brilliantly spoken natural leader—made all the more powerful because she was so young and a girl. Backed by an enormously talented young actress. I would have loved to see her in far more scenes. She deserved an Emmy. Goosebumps every time I hear her speech.
