I was paralyzed from the chest down almost six years ago and leaving the hospital was actually extremely hard for me. I grew a close bond with everyone who took care of me. Nurses, respiratory therapists, even janitors. I was hospitalized for a total of two months and the transition back home to live a regular (or as close to it as I could get) life was extremely difficult. Six years later, I still look back on my time in the hospital and feel overwhelming gratitude for the people who treated me like family. I can only hope and pray that they stumble across my content one day and see how far I’ve come. Their kindness and warmth is something I will carry with me forever. I’ll never forget these people❤️

I’ve been struggling. I haven’t been consistent on my socials lately, due to trying to maneuver through whatever I’ve been dealing with mentally. Since coming back to wrestling 2 and a half years ago, I’ve been very open and honest about things I’ve gone thru and it’s allowed people to connect with me in a way that has been truly humbling. I’m a firm believer in, everything happens for a reason…A couple days ago, while I was sitting with myself and trying to gather my thoughts. I was sent this video. It helped put alot of things in perspective for me. It reminded me of why I do what I do and why this journey has been so important to me. THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS HAVING MY BACK.

“My name is Gammee Lolo Waaqayyo. According to the Gregorian calendar, I was born in 2007. I am an Ethiopian national, born in the Oromia region, West Arsi zone, Gadab Hasasa district, in a place called Woqeenxara. When I was 10 years old, both my mother and father passed away. Because of this, the community in my area gathered a small amount of money and bought me a motorcycle. I started working with it by myself. Since I worked between the town and the rural areas, government forces threatened me, saying I was transporting goods to the Shanee armed group in the forests. Out of fear, I fled the country when I was 15 years old and went to Sudan. I stayed in Sudan for about one year. There, I met a friend, and through him, we contacted a smuggler and came to Libya. After we entered Libya, we were placed in a warehouse. Once inside, they demanded money beyond my capacity. Because I had neither my father nor my mother, and my siblings were themselves struggling, I had no way to pay the ransom. Because of this, they subjected me to severe torture. After enduring this for a while, I fell sick and spent about one month inside. Eventually, they released me, and while traveling with my friends towards Tripoli, I was arrested by the police and taken to a detention center called Tajoura. I stayed in the detention center for two months, where I suffered greatly. After that, they released me. One Ethiopian man saw me where I was abandoned and took me to the UNHCR office. But when he brought me there, UNHCR refused to accept me. The young man also abandoned me right outside the UNHCR gate and left me there. I slept in front of the UNHCR gate for four days. After that, another young Ethiopian came to me and asked what had happened. He recorded a video of me and posted it on social media. Afterwards, some young people who knew me by face saw the video and came and took me with them. Even now, I am still in a very difficult situation. I am very sick. I am currently 18 years and 4 months old.”

FROM INBOX | This morning at 7:15, I was a$$aulted by a City of Harare traffic officer. The incident began around 7:05 when two officers approached me as I was parking in a bay. They claimed that one of my car tyres had stepped on a white line. When I asked for a moment to park properly, one officer jumped into the back of my car, while the other clamped it and then also got into the vehicle. They demanded that I drive to their Coventry Road office but then began pressuring me for money, implying that if I didn't give them something, I would be charged $98 once they took the car in. I explained that I didn't have any money, but they continued to threa+en me. I started recording the conversation on my phone, took out $20, and as they were stepping out, I told them I had recorded everything. One officer immediately rushed off, and the other followed. When I demanded my money back, one of them attempted to flee and then śtruck me on the chin with a baton stick and a clenched fist before running away. I sustained a cut on my chin and it’s swollen. I have reported the incident to the police.

That’s why those aspirations, that tenacity, and that something about me - my self-worth - was so high. But after that, it was destroyed in an instant. 🐥 I lost a lot of my self-worth, and I started to feel like I was worth nothing. I started to doubt if there was any reason for me to be in this group. When I feel that kind of self-disgust, I think it’s important how I overcome those thoughts. In my early days of my debut, I think I only had a pretty packaging on me. I used to think, ‘I’m doing well, what more can I do?’ But after that pretty packaging came off, I had nothing inside. So I think it took me a long time to fill myself up. It was several years ago at the AP station in Gbagada I was working at Anthony Village at the time My car ran out of fuel on my way to work, I drove into AP station and bought 5000 Naira worth of fuel I paid and as I was driving out of the petrol station, the car sputtered and the engine died. I didn’t even consider that it was a fuel issue I thought the car, which was an old BMW had developed a fault. I took a bus to Ketu to get my mechanic We returned together to the car and the mechanic said “Epo lo tan ninu e” I said “No way, see nah, I just bought fuel before the car died here. The man looked at me, said I should give him 2000 Naira He went to another filling station and brought back a Jerry can full of petrol. He poured it into the car and the car started. We made it to the Forbes magazine cover! People are calling me an overnight success, but my journey started 10 years ago when I took my life’s biggest risk. After several months of studying day and night, I finally got into IIM Bangalore in 2014 for an MBA. My parents were very proud but then I took a major risk and decided not to go to IIM Bangalore, and instead focus on writing a book called Selfienomics which taught nutrition labels. I was young and idealistic, and I didn’t realize that most books don’t really make money. In fact, my book released in November 2016 (during the month of demonetization), and I barely made any money from the book. I struggled for many years after that, and ultimately decided that I should probably secure myself financially and I studied again for MBA entrance exams, and this time I got into Wharton School of Business. After Wharton, I worked at a high-paying job in the US for a few years. Then I took my 2nd biggest risk, where I left my job and US visa, and returned back to India to spread health literacy in India. After returning to India, my videos regarding food safety started finally gaining traction and after 8+ lawsuits, we made it to the Forbes cover. The end-goal is not to be on the Forbes cover though, the end-goal is to make 140 crore Indians health literate and help transform India from the diabetes capital to the health capital of the world!

I have sent a letter to the President and also to the District Sainik Board. I have also sent a letter to Rahul Gandhi..."
