I pick Boogie Nights. PTA has an unstructured quality to all his films, and sometimes it works better than others. I found TWBB to be a little diffuse.

By Thursday, Daniel Day-Lewis & Paul Thomas Anderson will each have a new film in theaters. There’s been so much industry-dread as of late, I can’t help but appreciate that they’re back. PTA already exceeded the high expectations around his new film & I expect DDL to do the same.

Boogie Nights is an astonishing film & the fact this is Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film blows my mind. I have no idea how he got Burt Reynolds, a living legend, to sign on to this film. I wish Reynolds would’ve won the Oscar, it would’ve made for a great Hollywood story.

I’m still stunned Paul Dano didn’t receive an Oscar nomination for There Will Be Blood. I understand the Best Supporting Actor field was loaded that year (Bardem, Affleck, PSH, etc.) but there needed to be room for Dano. He literally goes toe-to-toe with peak Daniel Day-Lewis.
