Meru is very rich agriculturally, and it being far from Nairobi makes it a bit self-sufficient unlike other Mt Kenya towns like Nyeri, where people just rush to Nairobi to buy stuff and ignore stores located there. It's the richest town in Mt Kenya region in my view.
