I interviewed this homeless woman a few years ago in Old Town Portland and it went worldwide viral. I got a lot of hate for publishing a video of a homeless person. This video though was seen by her family in another state who thought she was dead. Two weeks later they came to Portland and took her home There are many homeless people on the streets who are estranged from family and who think their loved ones who went to the streets are dead. I get daily messages from Family asking me to look for their family members or that they spotted their family member on my videos. I have accidentally become very involved in finding missing people and reconnecting them with family.

This video of a young male student beating up a female student because she said she does not want to be in a relationship with him is wrong on so many levels. I will start with the simplest issue. The person recording and just watching is as culpable as the idiot committing the violence. He should have intervened and stopped this coward from assaulting an innocent girl. The boy carrying out the violence is wicked and dangerous. This is the kind of behaviour that grows into a violent man, a violent partner, someone who cannot take no for an answer. That mindset is already visible here. Women and girls have agency and the absolute right to reject a proposal. When a woman says she does not want you, you respect that decision. You do not intimidate her. You do not force yourself on her. What we are seeing here is also a reflection of upbringing and socialisation. This kind of violence is learned. A boy who thinks this is acceptable behaviour has likely seen it normalised at home or in his community, perhaps watching a father abuse a mother and believing that it is acceptable. I never saw my father lift a hand or even raise his voice against my mother. That is why this is so disturbing. The Zimbabwean police must identify this young man and deal with him decisively. If such behaviour is ignored, these are the same young men who later become murderers because violence has been normalised in their minds. Beating a woman because she said no is not strength. It is weakness of character, weakness of mind, and moral failure. I also want to commend this young girl. She showed courage in the face of brutality. If anyone knows her, please identify her. I want to do something for her. She deserves recognition for standing up to a cowardly bully. And to the Zimbabwe Republic Police Zimbabwe Republic Police, this is what we have been saying for years, to you and to the political elites who routinely use violence against citizens. Violence has been normalised in our society. Children have grown up watching the police use force against civilians. They have seen soldiers brutalise and kill citizens, and they have learned from it. They now believe that violence is acceptable and that every dispute must be settled through force. This is not happening in a vacuum. This culture of violence has been taught, demonstrated, and tolerated from the top. What we are witnessing in our streets and schools is a mirror of what the state has normalised. This, too, is on your doorstep.

Contrarian has been sharply critical of Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs because we believe them to be scams. These anti-violence programs are completely fraudulent. These groups receive nearly $100M in grant money (our tax dollars) from the federal, state, county and city governments and they do nothing to reduce violence. In many cases, the "anti-violence workers" deal drugs, drink alcohol, do drugs with gang members or sell weapons to gang members while they are "at work." Our tax dollars are paying ex-gang members to return to gang life under the guise of "peacekeeping." In the video below on the left, an anti-violence worker admits his organization does not cooperate with CPD. The reason these anti-violence street workers refuse to cooperate with Police is because the outreach workers are protecting criminals from prosecution. In the video on the right, Teny Gross of the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago explains how his organization is "on the front lines" addressing street violence. They are not on the front lines. In one instance in April, after a shooting incident outside the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago, CPD officials investigating the incident approached Gross and his associates for assistance. Gross and his colleagues refused to cooperate with CPD and simply walked away. These outreach workers (peacekeepers, violence interrupters or FLIP workers) rarely show up at crime scenes and when they do bother to turn out, they make every effort to thwart police or interfere with CPD investigations. We are protesting the way in which the deportation was done—sending them in a military aircraft and that too in handcuffs is an insult to India; it's an insult to the dignity of Indians. Not long ago, Columbia refused to accept people in these circumstances and officially protested when they were sent in handcuffs. They had demanded that the people be sent in civilian aircrafts and only then they'll accept them. And I think we have to do the same. They have every legal right to deport people who are illegally in their country, and if they are proven to be Indians, then we have an obligation to receive them. But not in this manner.
