I've uncovered a treasure trove of evidence about Chip Su, the antisemitic owner of the Brooklyn Monarch venue in New York who canceled the scheduled performance of Israeli band HaYehudim because they're Jewish, and Chip Su's disturbing historical business ties to Cenk Eryaman, a rabidly antisemitic, anti-Israel, pro-Palestine extremist rape-denier. Chip Su was born in Surabaya, Indonesia and immigrated to America in 2000. In 2016, Chip Su opened The Kingsland Bar and Grill. With the success his first club brought, Chip decided to expand his enterprise, opening the Brooklyn Monarch in 2020. Cenk Eryaman is the owner of Goldsounds Bar which he originally opened with Chip Su. Eryaman is a rabidly antisemitic, anti-Israel, far left extremist. Eryaman's social media is filled with hatred for Israel and relentless anti-Israel propaganda. For years, he has regurgitated the propaganda of the pro-Hamas Marxist group Jewish Voice For Peace. On Memorial Day weekend in 2016, Chip Su, the owner of Brooklyn Monarch venue and Cenk Eryaman booked a Neo-Nazi skinhead Punk fest at the Black Bear Bar in Brooklyn. Black Bear Bar hosted the Neo-Nazi skinhead punk festival on Saturday night, then pulled the show's Sunday slot after locals and anti-racism groups accused it of welcoming "hate music" bands and a crowd that performed Nazi salutes. One bar regular said she knew something was up as soon as she caught a glimpse of the hundreds of skinheads standing in front of the venue at 7 pm, and felt too uncomfortable to stick around. "There must have been around 250 skinheads. They took over the whole sidewalk," said the long-time local, who asked to remain anonymous due to fears for her safety. The Black Bear Bar originally defended the event even after the Southern Poverty Law Center posted a warning about the event the prior week. The SLPC had written that Oi was part of "a scene long associated almost solely with neo-nazis," and declared that "The skinheads are coming to New York City" with the festival. In spite of this, Black Bear Bar posted images to their social media page showing people of color in the crowd. They then made a point of saying that not every band on-stage was all-white. But the venue drew criticism almost immediately. Black Bear Bar's original posts were removed and replaced on Instagram with a post saying that the venue "does not endorse" Nazism or racism. The Brooklyn Paper report that the band Offensive Weapon were "covering a song by British white power group Brutal Attack" and that a number of clips show those in the crowd throwing what appear to be white power salutes. In the days following the fallout from the Neo-Nazi skinheads at the bar, the owner of the Black Bear Bar said she was attempting to pick up the pieces of her venue's tattered reputation. Jessica Wertz, who also owns the bars Lone Wolf in Bushwick and No Name in Greenpoint. "Our reputation is destroyed." In the ensuing days, a massive local music festival Northside cancelled all the shows it had scheduled at Black Bear Bar. . Wertz claims she was as surprised as anyone to learn one of her venues was hosting such a show on the night. She oversees the main bar, but says she contracted out all the booking for its attached performance space the previous year to an outfit run by Chip Su and Cenk Eryaman, who also run booking company New Island Entertainment and Gold Sounds bar in Bushwick. Once the show started and "scary looking" skinheads walked in, they claim they immediately saw red flags and moved to cancel the fest's Sunday slot - even though someone from their side of things repeatedly defended the bands and attendees and mocked critics on the bar's Facebook page throughout the event. Fast forward to 2024: Chip Su cancelled an upcoming performance by Israeli band HaYehudim ( Hebrew for "The Jews") at Brooklyn Monarch venue because, according to the band, "the venue had a problem with “the political nature” of the band's name."
