"I think 'Come and See' (1985, Klimov) should be a compulsory viewing because it's the film that nearest nearest depicts certain aspects of the war that I don't think anything else has done." --- Roger Deakins

This is a great insight because the Soviet army wasn't known for being mass rapists

The first time I watched this movie I could not stop thinking about it for a week. It did not feel like a movie at all. It felt like i was experiencing the horror for myself. Incredible film making. Greatest war film of all time. Nothing comes close.

I could watch again APOCALYPSE NOW/PLATOON/FMJACKET/Letters from Iwo Jima or Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo (Korean masterpiece) etc. But i will never watch again COME AND SEE. And that says something. Many movies captured almost precisely the horrors of war. COME AND see did it 100%

As my great-grandfather said many years ago when describing world war 1, "War is the ultimate waste of human life." Come and See certainly demonstrates that.

Its easier to watch once you realize its pure propaganda

They never let me do any of the cool stuff when I did war

Saving Private Ryan, Dunkirk and 1917 all stole ideas from this movie. That tells you how great it is. Ryan - loss of hearing scene on Omaha beach. Dunkirk - opening with bombs dropping towards camera. 1917 - the continuity and camera chasing characters around.

Yes, bless Roger Deakins.

On my to watch list. Last time I checked Come and See was free on YouTube.

mosfilm have added a lot of russian movies on their YT page.
