Genuine question I’ve had since I was a kid: how do people make remixes? Do they recreate the song from scratch or edit the preexisting song? Would recreating it technically make it a cover? Or does it depend?

Typically a remix directly samples from the original and a recreation would count as a cover, but both can go hand and hand and still count as a remix! Usually you make a remix by taking the original audio and doing whatever you want to it while adding new stuff to it as well
