No, that isn't how it's supposed to be done. While that alternative works, putting the tab on the cylinder allows you to set it to whatever level of open you want, and prevents damaging the DOOR from wind or other pressure. Also, that alternative puts more strain on the cylinder.

It’s literally designed to be a “pressure” fitting… so if you have it open, and the wind hits it, it will automatically release, to allow your door to close, so it doesn’t get ripped off its hinges.

I was about to be like, "How did you not know about the thing..." then he got to the trick. I too learned something today.

That only works if you want the door propped all the way open and the actual piston shaft is close enough to the door. Other than that, it's a neat idea.🙄

I accidentally learned this years ago. It got stuck on my screen door and I was like well would you fucking look at this! I still don't know if it's the right way or not but it defiantly works lol

I just tried it on 3 doors & that’s not how it’s supposed to be done. It doesn’t work, the stopper is no where near the door lip.

Do not do this. That clip is meant for the cylinder not the door. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should.
