I think including history in robot foundation models is such an interesting direction. For example: from HAMLET: "swap the two cubes" A great example of a very simple task for a human that a robot can't do. if there was a robot arc-agi this would be in it.

This means that when performing a robot task via teleoperation — say, to collect examples for training a robot policy — it’s almost unavoidably slower than you would like, below either the capabilities of the human expert on their own or the robot performing the task. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to fix this? Unfortunately, it’s harder than it looks. You can’t just execute faster, as this alters the distribution of environment states the policy will encounter. Nadun Ranawaka Arachchige and Zhenyang Chen propose Speed-Adaptive Imitation Learning (SAIL), which adds error-adaptive guidance, adapts execution speed according to task structure, predicts controller-invariant action targets to ensure robustness across execution speeds, and explicitly models delays from, for example, sensor latency. Elon Musk: If you have billions of humanoid robots — and I think there will be — everyone on Earth is going to have one and want one. Assuming it’s very safe, who wouldn’t want a robot to watch over your kids, take care of your pets, and help with daily life? There just aren’t enough young people to take care of the old people. Taking care of elderly parents is difficult and expensive. A robot that could care for and protect an elderly parent would be an amazing thing to have. If you had a robot that could take care of your elderly parents, protect them, and be there 24/7, that would be great. That would be a truly life-changing technology for families around the world. I’m very optimistic about the future. I think we’re headed toward a future of amazing abundance — and that’s very cool. We are living in the most interesting time in history. On aging — I haven’t put much time into it yet, but I do think it’s a very solvable problem. When we figure out what causes aging, I think we’ll find it’s incredibly obvious. It’s not subtle.

NAVIAI-I3, a more robust humanoid robot, was launched by the Zhejiang Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center. Standing 1.8 meters tall, it can run like a human and walk on various terrains. This humanoid robot appears to be primarily designed for specialized industrial tasks, such as security patrols in underground parking lots. They previously launched the lightweight bipedal NVAI-2 and a wheeled humanoid robot. The bipedal robot is used in manufacturing operations, while the wheeled humanoid robot is used for unstructured, flexible tasks such as warehouse sorting, supermarket shelving, and office cleaning. We filmed this demonstration at the World Robot Conference; you can see it in the comments section.

The robot has two magnetic wheels driven by geared motors and an elastic tail to improve stability. In the front part of the robot, there is a miniature wireless camera. The robot is remotely teleoperated & the video signal from the camera is displayed to the operator on a portable screen. Let's wait and perhaps the robot will become more autonomous over time. Big fan of robots that make the world a safer place for humans.

The First “Killer Robot” ever seen. Mechanical Man (1921) is an Italian science fiction film from the silent era. It is an interesting and rare film. It prominently features a robot as it's primary antagonist, or at least as a part of the primary antagonist. The robot is controlled remotely by a nefarious operator. At the end of the film she is defeated when she is separated from the remote control. While this movie may have the first killer robot on film. The debate on the first movie robot is a difficult one to put to rest. If the definition of a robot is stretched much earlier movies feature some kind of artificially intelligent machine. There are also a few lost serials and films which featured some kind of robotic creature from the 1910s, I have found a source I am investigating for these films.

Just a little taste of the Robohacks hackathon happening now at Y Combinator in San Francisco. This is only two of the teams. The first is a team building a robot for an AirBnb on Mars. The second built a system that 3D prints new tools for the robot to do new work on Mars. Both demonstrate why I love builders so much. Dreaming of a new world and learning together how to build for a new robot none of them have used before.

In my first week at Generalist, I trained a robot to pour liquids using GEN-1 🤖💧 I wanted to challenge the robot with a non-rigid manipulation task, so liquid felt like the perfect choice. The task involved: - unscrewing the bottle cap - pouring liquid into espresso glasses - rebalancing uneven pours Best of all, the robot was able to complete the task fully autonomously 3 times in a row (out of 3)! Pour-fect 😉 Excited for the journey ahead and grateful to be building alongside such an incredible team!
