If the Yankees send Volpe back down at some point, they should let George Lombard play a lot more shortstop and expose Volpe to other positions. Lombard’s arm strength and intelligence is a huge plus at the position.

Yankees need to start being honest with themselves on so many things. They passed on every stud shortstop FA and went with a stop-gap shortstop in a championship window because they had multiple studs in the pipeline. Now goalposts have moved from "he's gonna crush it offensively this year" to "we don't even need him to be above league average" My gripe isn't with Volpe it's with how they've handled this stuff. They're not doing Volpe any favors. They said he got run down last year towards the end of the season. Well here we are and he's currently slashing .118/.182/.157/.339 in his last 13 games. A couple days of rest and reset may help. They just skipped Stromans a start for the same reason. I don't get it.
