The shortstop drops the ball, tags second and throws to first for the double play. The umpire called an infield fly rule, called the batter out and sent the runner back to first. He said the shortstop intentionally dropped the ball, thus he instituted the infield fly rule. I’ve never seen that before when it is not a pop up. Yankees need to start being honest with themselves on so many things. They passed on every stud shortstop FA and went with a stop-gap shortstop in a championship window because they had multiple studs in the pipeline. Now goalposts have moved from "he's gonna crush it offensively this year" to "we don't even need him to be above league average" My gripe isn't with Volpe it's with how they've handled this stuff. They're not doing Volpe any favors. They said he got run down last year towards the end of the season. Well here we are and he's currently slashing .118/.182/.157/.339 in his last 13 games. A couple days of rest and reset may help. They just skipped Stromans a start for the same reason. I don't get it.
