What an idiot at 32! As an ex Senior Civil Servant, let me educate him. The government hates the fact that people over 60 are not dying sooner, the perfect scenario is that they keep extending the age in the hope that they will be dead by the time they retire. We work 30+ years, pay our taxes and NI in preparation of our retirement. The government calculates the state pension as benefit 💁🏼‍♀️ it is not! The government now wants to change the law again, claiming that the state pension should not be guaranteed, you may ask what? If that is the case, why should workers pay NI you ask, instead of investing it in a private pension. Decades ago the government encouraged everyone to have individual pensions and to join work pensions where available, as a top up to their state pension, that was a lie! This idiot from LBC claims £150 billion is paid out to pensioners, it is not a benefit or a handout, they are receiving it because they have worked hard towards their retirement and getting what they are owed from their own contributions. What this guy needs to be aware is that the government both past and present have used and spend the hard cash people had put aside for their golden years, there is nothing in the kitty at treasury, which is why they calculate pension as benefit! To constantly change the retirement age is discrimination and frankly completely out of order, just because they can and because we as the public who put these people in power don’t fight for our rights and the government is counting on it.
