I asked LeBron James if he’s seen Luka Dončić unlock a new level to his game after the emotional trade, maybe motivating him in ways that wouldn’t have happened if he stayed in Dallas his entire career. “A new level to his game, I think the most important is just his comfort. Obviously, when you get traded midseason, and him spending his first seven or eight years here. Obviously, I was shocked to everybody. You know everybody that was involved in everybody that wasn’t involved in this whole sports world. Obviously him and the guys that were involved in the trade, but I think the biggest thing this year it’s just more comfortable, you know. Understand the system, understanding the city, you know the city embracing him. Understand that this is him team and we’re all rallying around him. We all know it’s an emotional/big game when you come back and play your former team. He showed who he is tonight.”

I'm not disrespecting him at all because he's one of the greatest ever, but he was a more rounded player. He played his position, he did his job defensively, he was disciplined, responsible, and then he'd still go and score goals that won us games. He was unbelievable. Later in his career he scored even more goals, and we were all happy to do more work for him because he was winning matches. But that version of Cristiano, for me, was the complete footballer."
