Five-year-old Sandra Dorothy Bacon was abducted, raped and murdered in Townsville, Qld exactly 62 years ago today. Sandra's killer was jailed but paroled in 1985. How dare he stand up and call a rape victim a liar. Let's recap. Carr was convicted of raping the woman in March of 2023. He was convicted by a jury. The woman was repeatedly called a liar by his defence. She endured a grueling and demeaning cross examination. For context, juries rarely convict in rape cases because of the old 'he said she said' bullshit. Carr himself had a cloak of anonymity for three years as he used his money and power to convince the legal system to protect him. He was charged in 2023 and a suppression order – similar to the one used to protect rapist Tom Silvagni – was rolled out. He raped the woman in 2023 after spending months harassing her sexually. This is the story of Kay. Kay was a police officer serving in one of Australia's toughest beats - the Northern Territory. The Northern Territory has one of the highest domestic violence rates in Australia - 8 of the 10 women killed their in the past few months were allegedly killed by their partners. Kay was experiencing extreme violence at the hands of her male partner - a fellow police officer. She would not report him herself as she feared he would kill her. Her loved ones did tell on him - at least 17 times. He was never charged and no DVOs were enacted. In 2020, Kay suffered traumatic head injury. He was the only person with her at the time. Despite the injury being consistent with being hit around the head, he was not charged with her murder, manslaughter or other violence offences. He was charged with fail to rescue for not getting her medical care. That charge has now been dropped and he has returned to work. He will never face justice. Kay will never receive justice.
