I used Codex 5.6 Sol to get RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 running natively on iPad. This is built on OpenRCT2, the open-source engine their team has poured years into. I compiled it to a native ARM64 iPad app and built the touch controls on top. No emulator, no x86, no... show more

Full build-and-run guide is on GitHub. Bring data from your own legally owned RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 copy and you can get it running on your iPad.

The build: one goal-based prompt after a ton of research, and Codex 5.6 Sol ran for hours doing the bulk of it. I spent the rest of my time building and tuning the touch layer and fixing bugs. Keyboard, mouse, and trackpad also work. It's easy to play and the touch controls are great. Huge credit to the OpenRCT2 team, none of this exists without their engine. If you've got an old RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 copy sitting around, pull it down and play it on your iPad!

This is mad. RCT2 on iPad native with touch controls is the dream. Open sourcing it too? That's the move.

enjoy! let me know if you try it out!

Can someone please run sims 1 on a website, aren’t we there yet?

Sims 1 is super tricky. I'm looking into it.

This is the best kind of agent flex — not a benchmark score, a childhood game running natively because someone got annoyed enough to finish it. More of this, less 'we scored X% on SWE-bench.'

Totally agree. Bring back the fun.

This is amazing! RTC2 is an all time great!

@dkundel I loved that game

wild that OpenRCT2 can compile to ARM64 without major surgery. touch controls for path building must have been a nightmare to get right

Excellent work!

🔥

Nice work! I used to play this all the time back when it came out.

@Dimillian You mean

@Dimillian This is a different version, different engine, different UI

StarCraft would be fkin crazy

This is pretty crazy!

best game ever made

do caesar III now

Caesar III actually is quite doable. I'll put it on the list for next week.

yeah check out augustus, great active open source community

porting space gotta be sooooo fun right now.

Please do android next

Hey @Dimillian your games got some competition

okay, thats impressive. One of my fav games from back then

Now THAT's what you call REAL AI usage. Porting a Windows game natively onto ARM-based IPAD. I'm betting out there someone is trying to get Cyberpunk running on an iPad. Do something that nobody has ever done before instead of just engagement farming with AI slop videos and that stuff.

first actual impressive thing I've seen a clanker do not bad I don't even wanna know what it cost and how many tokens were burned lol

Not much. Other projects by comparison have proven to be 100x more complex and way more burn.

The last time I read about this program was from @AutismCapital

I have a genuine question, can you generate a roller coaster that launches the people off into the abyss? The App Store iOS doesn’t allow this anymore and it was an integral part to roller coaster tycoon back in the 90s.

Yes

Next hospital tycoon

This makes me want to see what Sol would build while playing the game

😂 I didn't want to burn more tokens to find out. It's a bad amusement park manager.

Lol 😂 computer use is so fun to watch

Now we’re talking

I love everything about this

At least you work at open a.i. unlike google engineers building with fable on iPad.

RCT2 running natively on iPad with no emulator is such a nostalgia hit

This is amazing! Just got a new follower

Beautiful.

@ben3bil I have an Intel IPad :(

@OpenAIDevs This is absolutely amazing. Is there anyway I could get you to talk about this on my podcast?
