Why don’t we make books that look like this anymore?

Seriously!!! I guess because majority of the worlds population are literate so more books need to be produced, therefore the artistry gets lost in mass production. Also remember this is a time where everything is done by hand, so it takes a very long time and is very expensive, and nowadays the average person cannot afford to spend that sort of money on books!

I know these books are one of a kind. But like, why can’t we just print copies of the pages and then put them in leather bound hardcovers? 😭 these libraries are beautiful
