I wanted infinite canvas for my desktop. So I built it with Omarchy and Opus. I'm calling it Phantomat. Grab here: Thanks for all the feedback, gl and hf.

I did an infinite canvas concept a few years back and beat my face against the wall with it. I like a lot of the choices you made here... great work

Thanks James, yea lots of edge cases

Holy shit, this is so damn good.

Thanks, feels pretty fun to use

this wold look extra awesome in like a vision pro or some kind of virtual screen.

My accountant says no

@tldraw time to pivot to being the OS

Moving between windows by searching feels quite slow from a UX perspective. For instant switching, we should be able to see the icons of all currently open windows in a “Tasks in Panel” area, either in the top left or somewhere in the center. That would let us switch between windows instantly, almost like using a shortcut. Search should probably be the second option, rather than the primary way to switch between open windows.

Maybe, i like the search though

This is your project, and your motivation and the work itself look genuinely great. I’m only sharing these comments so you can also consider different design perspectives

I was working on a similar project too. I didn’t have time to finish it, but I could access distant apps directly with a single click using labels placed along all four edges of the screen

Well done! Seems slick

Thanks Dan!

third time I've seen this idea executed now, I'm glad that people are learning the Ways of the Infinite Canvas

Am i on the right path?

I'd say so, yes! Obviously don't treat me words as definitive gospel, but some thoughts I have are: - the parallax and fisheye effect are on the flashier side but very fun - was gonna comment on alt-tab support but looked at the readme and seems like that's done already! - some of the tooltips and info text are a bit extra imho and signal vibecodiness - Does holding the super key allow you to drag the windows around? - How are popups and modals handled? - To take things one step further, "frames" / grouping, as well as the ability to draw on the canvas over and in between apps, would be really powerful! If you're curious, here's my attempt from 8mo ago:

This looks phenomenal man 🙌🏿

Is it running on Omarchy?

Yes but would probably work on anything with Hyprland

This is cool af - posted to the corp slack :D

Broo, going to grab this asap

Hope you like it!

Waow.. this is just awesome!!!

Neat

this is fucking awesome! ill give it a try this weekend! Ive made a mansory plugin for omarchy. i'm having ideas for making a infinite canvas mansory lmao right now.

Thanks man! Nice go for it!

Damnn this is so cool! Is there any trouble navigating this?

Yea not sure how to handle certain scenarios like multi monitors, full screen windows

This would be amazing in VR set. I would try to install it. Thanks

You're saying i need to buy a new piece of tech right?

No. I would like to try this my Pico VR set. But before that @grok do you think I can install Omarchy in this VR set ?

No, Omarchy can't be installed directly on a Pico VR set. It's an Arch-based Linux desktop OS for PCs (x86/ARM like Steam Deck or Apple Silicon), while Pico runs locked Android-based PICO OS. Instead, install Omarchy on a PC and stream it wirelessly to your Pico via Immersed (available in the Pico store, supports Linux) or Virtual Desktop. That lets you use Phantomat's infinite canvas in VR.

Niri

that is fucking amazing

fucking cool

nice. love seeing linux side projects like this ship

Thx

I'm so gonna try this out today. Looks amazing man!

Thanks! Have fun!

@dhh 👀

👀👀

I want this on Vision Pro…

Very interesting concept 👏👏

This looks exciting!

I was doing the same last night, but for windows 😀

Looks cool! Finally we can fo what we want :)

omg! expose done the right way finally

Lot of quirks but feels fun

just installed this, love it! some quirks I hit: I had to do Super+H instead of the default Super+Ctrl+G - too much finger gymnastics Ctrl+A in HUD just does a vertical list Super + wheel still doesn't work for me Super+T to maximize overlaps windows weirdly

this is awesome!

Thanks man!

So.. niri?

phantomat on an infinite canvas is such a cool desktop flex building that with omarchy sounds like a proper weekend rabbit hole
