Imagine qualifying as a doctor in the UK, only to be told there is no NHS training job for you in your home country. That is the reality facing thousands of UK medical graduates. The taxpayer invests in medical education. Medical graduates complete a five to six year demanding medical degree, graduate with debts often exceeding £100,000, and commit themselves to serving patients in the NHS. Yet in 2025, more than 40,000 applicants applied for just 10,000 specialty training jobs. Some doctors end up unemployed because they cannot find jobs as fully qualified doctors. These training posts are not optional extras. They are the route to becoming the specialist Consultants and GPs our NHS depends on. Without them, doctors cannot progress in their careers and patients ultimately lose future specialists. Yet UK medical graduates are not being prioritised for these NHS training jobs. Prioritising UK medical graduates for speciality training jobs is coherent workforce planning. At the same time, there must be safeguards for international doctors with significant NHS experience who are already contributing to patient care. Right now, the system satisfies no one. It creates unemployment, fuels insecurity, and weakens the future medical workforce. That is not sustainable and it must change.

40,000 doctors applied for just 10,000 specialty training jobs in 2025. Tens of thousands were turned away because the number of NHS training jobs is capped by the Government. Doctors need these jobs to become specialist Consultants/GPs. Some are now facing unemployment. Others are stuck in short-term, insecure roles with no clear path to becoming a GP or Consultant. At the same time, patients are waiting weeks for GP appointments and months for surgery. We’re told there “aren’t enough doctors” - and that’s true. England has fewer doctors per person than many comparable European countries. So we’re an under-doctored country, while blocking thousands of doctors from progressing in their careers and helping cut waiting lists, If we don’t expand training numbers (including post CCT jobs), we won’t get the GPs and specialists patients urgently need. This is NHS workforce planning failure on a national scale.

Now more than ever, we must unite. We must unite against the ruiners of Nigeria before they bury what is left of her. Organization is the first primary weapon of the oppressed. This is the only weapon we are yet to explore, and we can not explore this until we unite. The oppressed Nigerians must organize to form a force against the ruiners of Nigeria and take back our country to have a system that is for the benefit of the Nigerian people and not a few in the position of power. President will come and go, only the people will remain. Don't give those in power today to play politics with your future. Let's unite, not necessary as one but as a team. A young boy from Konnagar lost his life today following a road accident, after BLEEDING FOR 3 HOURS WITHOUT RECEIVING MEDICAL ATTENTION, a consequence of the ongoing protest by doctors in response to the #RGKar incident. While the demands of the junior doctors are both fair and valid, I urge them to protest in a way that doesn't disrupt essential medical services. Allowing a death due to PREVENTABLE NEGLECT is tantamount to CULPABLE HOMICIDE. If the protest has to continue, it should be done constructively, with empathy and humanity, ensuring no more lives are put at risk through inaction or neglect. 🙏🏻

The moment the Hon'ble Supreme Court Bench looked for Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who was to appear on behalf of the State to defend the retention of 151 Super Speciality seats for further rounds of counselling, he was nowhere to be found. In his absence, the State was represented by junior counsel Karunakaran. For a case with such profound implications for Tamil Nadu's public health system and government doctors, this is the level of seriousness the TVK government chose to display. So much for their professed commitment to protecting Tamil Nadu's medical infrastructure. Kudos, TVK.

A unique and peaceful protest is being carried out through a hunger strike at Gautam Nagar, Delhi, where Foreign Medical Graduates are raising their concerns and seeking their rightful consideration. Hunger strike is on but students are still studying at protest site. The students are demanding one-time compensation marks in view of the various difficulties and irregularities faced during the recent examination. As an association, we are committed to constructive mediation in the larger interest of the Government, healthcare system, and affected medical students. We humbly request Hon’ble Shri J. P. Nadda Ji and the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare to kindly grant an urgent appointment so that our delegation can meet the concerned officials and present the students’ concerns. Today, at Redeemer’s University Redeemer's University, Ede, Osun State, I was glad to commission the new Institute of Genomics and Global Health, marking a significant evolution from ACEGID’s @acegid status as a center of excellence. This moment is not only a proud achievement for all those involved, but it also stands as a powerful symbol of what African scientific leadership can achieve on the global stage. Under the visionary leadership of Prof Christian Happi Christian T. Happi, the team at ACEGID has made extraordinary strides in genomic research, particularly in addressing some of the most pressing infectious disease challenges of our time. The inauguration of the Institute reminds us that the work being done by the ACEGID team is a global public good, benefiting not only Nigeria and Africa but also contributing to global health security. The partnerships fostered between institutions and scientists from the Global North and South are a testament to our shared commitment to protecting and advancing human health. This collaboration has demonstrated what is possible when we work together to confront challenges that affect us all. Under the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Bola Ahmed Tinubu health security remains a central pillar of our broader strategy to transform Nigeria’s health system, unlock the value chain, and improve population health outcomes. Today, in my capacity as the President of NANS, I led all the structures of NANS, including sister unions, NAUS, NAPS, NANCES and NFSAN to the Community High school, Ahoro-Esiele, and Yawato community in Orire Local Government area of Oyo state, where we visited the scenes where our students and teachers were abducted. Going forward, we met with the King, some of the families of the victims, and parents in the communities of Ahoro-Esiele and Yawato communities. Furthermore, we assured them of our solidarity and support for them in this time of trouble and grief. Subsequently, we assured them that we are constantly calling on the government to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. Conclusively, I assured all Nigerian Students that as far as I remain their President, I will continue to protect their interest.
