Some say that the most surprising aspect of the October 7 massacre—the most horrific attack on Jews since the Holocaust—is not necessarily what happened on October 7, not to minimize it. It is what happened on October 8 and October 9, and on all the days since, on Western campuses, in Western schools, and in Western media outlets. The way the West has reacted, in particular young people, all across this country and in Europe, to the horrors of October 7, has been as disappointing to so many of us as it was surprising because it misses the point. The point is that the October 7 attacks were not just attacks on Jews or Israelis alone; they were part of a broader war for the heart and soul of Western civilization.

I visited the Seized Enemy Equipment Exhibition which showcased the weapons and supplies that Hamas terrorists used to commit a massacre against Israel on October 7th. On display, were the infamous trucks, bulldozers, and motorcycles that we all saw in the horrific footage from that day. I also saw the rockets, drones, guns, and ammunition that they used to wage war. But most shocking was what the IDF found in a tunnel underneath ground, a medical kit designed to train people on how to treat babies. This shows that Hamas planned to kidnap Israeli babies like Kfir Bibas, who wasn’t even one year old when he was stolen from his home in Israel.

Today I was among the journalists who have attended a private screening of the raw footage of October 7th and I want to express to you what I saw since it’s not been made public. It’s been a very heavy day. A decision was made that Jews are less than human, and treated that way in words and deeds..I now know that’s exactly the message Hamas sent on purpose — at scale. I wasn’t aware of that before. I saw bodies were burned but I did not understand or appreciate how intentional the effort was - they did it methodically, you hear it in the voices, the commands the ease, the excitement of finding and mutilating victims.

I went to see for myself what is happening at the humanitarian aid sites. What I saw proved that what the media is reporting about the situation is absolutely false. The GHF’s mission is to feed the people of Gaza in a way that Hamas can’t steal the food, and it’s working. I witnessed over 13,000 people being fed including 3,300 women and children. I’m sick of everything being pinned on October 7 and of the endless excuses and blame placed on Palestinians. This is a video I made years before October 7, yet people still act shocked that it happened. What occurred was not sudden or random — it was the result of long-standing injustice. The responsibility lies with governments and mainstream media that ignored the reality on the ground, not with a people who have been denied their basic rights for decades. The government and the mainstream media must now do the right thing. They bear responsibility for what has unfolded, and they must hold Israel to account, confront colonial injustice, and stand for justice, dignity, and freedom for the Palestinian people.

NYT Columnist and Duke Professor Frank Bruni says that college students viewing the world through an oppressor vs. oppressed paradigm has led them to advocating for Hamas and not even stopping to learn about what happened in Israel on October 7. "A lot of college students in this generation, there's a sort of paradigm they use, or lens they use to kind of evaluate the world. And it's one in which people who have less money, people who have less power, sometimes people who have darker skin must inherently be being wronged and are therefore most likely to be in the right. I think you saw that play out after October 7. … If you looked at what happened right after October 7, you saw a lot of young people not even take a moment to really acknowledge what had happened in Israel, and how horrific that was. They just kind of immediately applied this paradigm and began advocating not just for Palestinians, but in a perverse way, at times for Hamas."

I could have been Hamas. That was the person that they raised me to be. When October 7 happened, it was so traumatic for me, because it was not just seeing innocent beautiful people being slaughtered. My friends and co-workers, the Jewish people that I learned to love could have also been slaughtered. And more than that, it was the moment that I realized that the Holocaust was real. Because my entire life the only thing that I learned about the Holocaust was that it was ”Jewish propaganda” and it never happened. But then when I saw the slaughtering that happened, everybody clapping – people in New York, London, Malmö, celebrating the murder of Jews. That’s when it clicked for me. Suddenly all the brainwashing ended and I realized this deep antisemitism that lives not just where I come from but also in Europe and the West. I have visited Israel twice and I am in love with Israel, Jews and Israelis. I cannot tell you enough how much I love my Israeli and Jewish friends that I have made since October 7, and before. And I have promised to argue with my family and friends every day because they hate and don’t understand Israel. And even though I have lost many friends and family members, I have said that I will spend the rest of my life showing the truth of my Jewish and Israeli friends.
