He sounds dumb describing the wire and you sound dumb describing sopranos

Not a race guy, but this is normally the take I hear from people who can’t process expressions of emotional depth and agency from non-members of their in-group.

They are one dimensional only to people who see Black people as one dimensional.

Thats one of the worst takes about the wire I have ever heard

And that logic from the White guy is exactly why the Wire didn’t win multiple Emmy’s. Anyone who watched that show without having a caricature about Black people in their minds can see the depth of multiple characters. Dude is an idiot.

I don’t care about white peoples opinions on Black shows. I don’t expect them to understand most of them are incapable

What people dont get about the Wire is that the city of Bmore is the main character, each real character is just a personality of the city. Its brilliant Its realized when they do the final montage and nothing has changed. The sopranos provided an element of the supernatural thought out the show, which was unique. But the characters were all typical of any mob movie except Tony who was just a sociopath.

Omar has no depth is bullshit😭 Because being a gay drug dealer robber, who does not kill non street people, ruined his get away to avenge Butchie, avenged his lover, was hurt by the loss of Tasha, hurt by knowing the kids were imitating him...

You don't need to trash one great piece of art to defend another, you both sound like caveman.

He heard you say all that about Omar but didn’t listen bc he was trying to get a point. Convo was really doomed from the start tho.

I would argue there's never been a show that makes as many characters well rounded as the wire, that shows as many of the good and bad points of different characters, top to bottom. It's width is deeper than any show I've ever seen.

your reaction to the question about Omar's depth needs the full screen treatment

This is a two americas thing. He doesn't get that Omar had a fierce code but broke it when it benefited him. He was a killer and robberer but never put his gun on a citizen. He was also vastly intelligent and played everyone, because that's what you do in the streets. Play or get played (like Omar said)

Honestly saying the wire characters are one dimensional is one of the dumbest critiques I've ever heard. It's an ensemble show, so it can't do the depth of character development of 1 or 2 characters that the sopranos or breaking bad can BUT...

Wild thing to say. Not true. Might be true to him lol he can’t read black people though. Clearly.

lol this reminds me of when someone tweeted a few months ago that Brother Mouzone is a fantasy character that would never exist. You could tell they had never been to Black neighborhoods, especially in Philly & Baltimore areas & hadn't heard of orgs such as Fruit of Islam.

Sopranos and The Wire disrespect will not be tolerated, but The Sopranos is the better show in my opinion. The entire season about the docks was not on par with the other seasons of The Wire.

That man just admitted out loud that he doesn't see Black folks from urban places as real people. He's a racist, and he would have been kicked out.

He is completely correct. The Wire wasn’t as good as the other prestige shows and a big reason for that is the characters are nowhere near as complex or well written as those on The Sopranos, Mad Men, The Leftovers… Omar is an entertaining character not a complex one
