that's how it is done in non metros in maharashtra. POP has now pentetrated small towns too, but this was the norm for decades till now

I once visited home having Gobar-Ganesh (गणेश made with Gobar). The murti was not as decorative as POP, but trust me, the Devine energy I felt, just by looking at Gobar-ganesh, is still unmatched.

i did this for last 2 years. The idol took 2-3 days to completely melt in the bucket. If you pour that clay in the garden, it will destroy that part of the garden..then nothing will grow on the clay per se. Decided to have a permanent idol and immerse the one made of turmeric.

All of India literally does exactly this. The idols and flowers, after submergence turn into silt, minerals and humus, nourishing the river bed, flood plains and downstream irrigation canals. The only problem is the submergence of plastic and other non biodegradable substances.

@prakashadvani Traditionally, thats how its suppose to be, people would make Ganpati from the clay soil in the ponds and wells of their fields.

Most of the southern part of Bharat follows the Ganesha made from turmeric or clay , very eco friendly. 🙏🙏

Having faith and devotion is great but taking care of earth and sustainability is greater than individual devotion. Cleaner earth, a safer place to live, a responsible society, all we need to leave for the next generations to come. Let’s break the tradition if it hurts the Environment.

we did it yesterday. Did not immerse Ganesha in river.

I'm 4m Tamilnadu.Apart 4m ppl near waterbodies,most of us hv been doing this for years now.Very huge idols will be taken to lakes & rivers. There is a rule in TN...No chemical mixed idols must be used.Only clay must be used for making idols n edible paints must be used 4 coloring

No body cares about environment.. if you ask them to be a little considerate they will quickly indulge in whataboutery... . We deserve the hell hole we live in.

Leadership has to take the initiative despite the electoral risks. We can't allow crores damaging the environment in the name of religion/ age-old traditions. Practices were sustainable for a few thousands not crores. MH CM banned loud noise DJs etc in public places effectively.

I told my parents to buy a ecofriendly murti but they bought PoP one. I am fed up with explaining this to my mom. She never listerns. She want's a big murti with tons of paint on it and which costs a lot less. Fuk it.

Jb bhi mujhe meri mentality ke log milte hai to mujhe ek hope dikhta hai ki ane wale time me baki log bhi samjh jaynge. This is exactly what I also think the best way of balancing nature preservation and culture both.

This murtis/idols take time to complete, they are heavier as compared to POP idols & can't make larger size idols of only mud, difficult to paint as well. Only option is you yourself create your own Ganesha idols & immerse them in your own backyard.

It's too much work why don't we we just drop it in our close by river/nala it's other's problem not mine. 😁👍
