I read this maybe 25 or 30 years ago and it's one of the best novels I've ever read. I also remember it was a special time for me with my younger son when he was about six or seven. Every time I read a chapter of Jane Eyre, I summed it up for him. He was hooked. When I finished the book and told him the ending, his eyes watered and he told me it was the best book he ever read (even though he didn't read it). 😍🤣

Chris, do yourself a favour and read the world's first "detective novel", Wilkie Collins, The Moonstone and the Woman in White. You will not sleep until they're finished, guaranteed

I really enjoy these book reviews!

Get this dude some Jane Austen STAT

i’ve read pride and prejudice i need to read the others

Sense & Sensibility is one of my favorites

My dad has always said how great a novel Jane Eyre is. He read it as a teenager and it blew him away too!

Thank you - it has been years since I read Jane Eyre. I will read it again and savour it.

love this review so much - agree that it’s amazing when a character completely transforms over the course of the book

Have you read Les Misérables yet? It’s hands down the best book I’ve ever read. I was devastated when I finished it. My second favourite is David Copperfield.

The first time I read Jane Eyre I was in high school, and I don’t think I really understood it the way I did when I read it as an adult. Second time through I really loved the character and how she changes throughout the book. Great read!

Now you make me want to pick it up! I'm a Jane Austen fan, but I've never picked up Brontë. Btw, I see "The Devils" on your shelf. I'm also a big Joe Abercrombie fan! Good reading!

I never thought about reading this book, but because of your review, I'm adding it to my list. I probably should have read it a long time ago, but it just wasn't in my sights. Now I'm prioritizing it. Thank you!

Hey Chris, love your reviews! FYI, The Wide Sargasso Sea is a prequel to Jane Eyre. It's the backstory of the insane woman living in the attic, Mr. Rochester's wife. Beautiful, lyrical writing, it completely explains why she was obsessed with fire. Love this book.

If you ever want to watch a movie adaptation, the 2006 BBC miniseries starring Ruth Wilson is widely considered the most faithful and best adaptation. Its four-hour runtime allows for the inclusion of subplots and character nuances often cut from shorter films.

If I have a favorite book, it’s Jane Eyre. We’re all proud of Jane, and of you. And yes—The romance is VERY much a sub-plot, almost irrelevant. You nailed it, Jane is brave, and holds to her own sense of honor at every turn. It’s never too late for us to do that.

Your video gives me hope that progressives are losing.1. I never considered a man wld be interested in this book or author (I read it in a women’s studies course)! 2. Progressives wld say the classics are offensive. But the themes you discuss are universal to the human condition!

Jane Eyre is one of my favorite classics.

I'm so happy you loved it! It's my favourite book.

What a great review! I read this book so many years ago and your insights have made me want to go back and read it again. ❤️

Love that you are encouraging others to read and recommending good books. We need more of this.

I just love your description of the plot. I had to read it for English at school and because of that I didn’t really get into it enough to enjoy. Too young I guess. Might be time for another read.

Solid ✊🏻👌🏻 Books are always 3 way endeavours: you, the author, the book. To re-read a book (after a period of years) is often to read a new book, because you have changed in the interim.

Insightful review! Jane Eyre embodies the essential qualities that modern day "feminism" foolishly abandoned. A young woman is most "empowered" when her quiet fortitude, femininity and free thinking govern her actions. Much more fulfilling than any "girl boss" fairytale:)

You’ve just inspired me to read this again. 💗

@kenoshaborn1946 The Count of Monte Christo better be in that Top 10 too!

And Jane will stay with you forever. Excellent review. 👌

She definitely has an amazing strength of character and respect for herself, but I think that it stems not from being "true to herself" but actually being true to her God and what she knows he wants of and for her.

I really do recommend reading A Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, it really is a great picture of what went before.

@Diana_E_Prince I’ve read this book so many times it just falls open now. I love it.

Thank you! I will definitely be reading it!

Jane Eyre was my role model when I was a teen. Got me through some very hard times. Excellent description, by the way

I don’t think you are alone. I heard Jane Eyre had a decent male following. Especially for a second read.

Brilliant review & insights. Check out a novel by her sister ... not what you think I'm going to say! I mean the other sister, Anne Bronte. I'm currently reading her novel The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. It's not what you might expect!

God Bless You!

Jane Eyre is my favorite read of all time. (I find a way to work it into most of my BookTube videos because it's just that good, just that central to life.) I'm so glad to see you've enjoyed it!!!

I read this book at age 11 and it had a HUGE impact on me. Read Jean Rhys’ “Wide Sargasso Sea” for Bertha’s story.
