@TheThing89 @uqruu8 It isn't, though. The change to make it brighter and addition of filters makes it more difficult to see the blood on Rukia, which downplays the level or risk.

@AssassinWarrio4 @TheThing89 @uqruu8 Soft light, because it being fought at night under streetlights, and makes the skin appear to glow because the scene is supposed to be otherworldly. Other scenes had different lighting You can actually see the blood on the kimono at tell it's blood on the ground and not a shadow.

I might need to say that for EVERY anime, the physical version (DVD here) always have corrections and better Art overall than the mostly rushed (thus maybe unsatisfying) TV version

I like the international release. This only happened when hollows were present in the first arc iirc. Gave the scenes a feeling of "otherworld". Like they were in a separate space where hollows exist only for a moments notice.

The other version on the right fits the night time atmosphere so it works, it’s not like the whole show looks like that but it gives spooky vibes which I like

The international release is so blurrl. They put a lot of filter on it

If I had to give an honest guess, it's probably the same reason this happens now. They just put on TV the"final" version that they had ready to go for broadcast, and then released the touched up version for DVDs and whatever else.

original broadcast wasn't what the team envisioned originally for the episode so they recomposited it for dvd, iirc

Looks like desaturarion, turned up gamma, and a healthy layer of Vaseline. Really dont care for the last one in particular

Usually jp tv broadcast was made quick to catch up with weekly broadcast schedule, so they would skip any after effects, filters, character details etc. They would fix it later in DVD version which is where international version was taken from.

...they destroyed a layer of depth just to censor Rukia's butt...

I only see an ugly blur filter on the dvd release Also dude is 2004, people back them didn't care for uhd details, heck most people probably were looking this on a small flat or a crt still

I've always loved the non-original one but I can totally see why you would prefer the original.

I remember watching the first episode and I was always wondering why is it so white like there’s this filter on it that just makes everything white and hazy. I think it’s the soul society arc where it kind of goes away completely

And years later they stopped using it, like in the Soul Society or Arrancars

I prefer that vivid-blurish effect. Feels more like a mystery, better conveys a sense of abnormal moonlight. How it effects characters, feels by them.

Idk maybe it's me, but the not original version visually looks better. Like I get they changed it, but the colors (especially the blacks) look like one mass without much definition, where as you can see more definition on the other version.

Could it be that this weird edited haziness is sleep inducing?

Surely you already know. There's no time to do this for broadcast back then. And it's typical for DVD versions to have improved art. Then International markets, I'm guessing, started Bleach much later. So the remasters could be used for those markets.

The 2000s were brown&bloom era.

A very bold and kinda unralistic guess would be that maybe they made it darker so that it had more contrast on the CRT TVs that many people still used at that time, while modern LCDs can show doarker colors by default. But that't probably just something that i came up with.

Broadcast looks so much better.

Honestly i like thefilter effect on the international, feels like it hits the occult genre better
