The main chat manages threads, and by default it runs at low effort. Threads handle most of the work, and default to Opus 5.5 and medium effort. Each thread is its own full Claude, not a helper that disappears. It stays, and you can talk to it directly.

You can close your laptop. Threads usually run in the cloud so they keep going, and when you're back, the project's Overview shows which ones finished and which are waiting on you. I tend to check in from my phone in between, when I'm AFK.

When a thread needs you, it can wait. Like when it has a question or needs your approval, the main chat can let you know and the Overview button in the project header shows a dot. Answer directly in the thread, then it goes back to work.

Some tasks need your computer, just ask Claude to run that task there. Connect a folder in the Claude desktop app first, then Claude answers with a card asking to work in that folder and you can allow it. That thread will work locally while the other threads stay in the cloud.

There's a lot more to projects, which are in public beta on Pro and Max, and rolling out gradually. The launch post has the thinking behind Claude Projects:

It's amazing to use. The local hand off needs some work a d also auto mode needs work, I'm often not allowed to do things so have to have a terminal open to run commands. I'd like a dangerous permissions mode please

Claude Projects is such a breakthrough. Real delight to use and its crazy how good it is.

I am often asking Claude to read all relevant historical chats for context on current chat and his memory is rarely accurate — context should persist in project history.

you use the main chat as a dumping ground and let Claude sort it out later. That approach works well for heavy workflows but risks losing context over time.

The flooding-and-sorting pattern is interesting because it offloads prioritisation to the model. The risk: you lose track of which decisions Claude sorted vs. which ones you made. That distinction matters when the project goes wrong.

Game changer. I dump everything into the project and the orchestrator sorts it out. I can open the threads when I need them. Love that you can set reasoning level in both places. Go lower in the orchestrator as it really just routes the requests, use normal reasoning in the threads. Thanks for the early access.

I don't get it. With a claude code running in a folder persistently, it spins up sub agents no problem. Just have many folders focused on different areas that you work on.
