this isn't pressure washing. Within moments you can be caught in a burn over. You just lost sons a week ago in Colorado.

We do this for free every year in South Africa. I spent 3 hours on Tuesday doing this, just with bigger flames. It's less fun when you walk through afterwards to extinguish the embers and you find tortoises and all kinds of small animals that couldn't escape.

Join a rural VFD and you can. The majority of firefighters in the United States are volunteers, especially in the rural regions. And there are paid wildland firefighters as well. Paid or volunteer, be worn it doesn’t always go perfect perfectly:

you always fight from "the black". They are on the wrong side of the flames.

Go volunteer if you are for real

One day in 100 degree weather in nomex gear, breathing smoke with every breath, and coming home smelling like Smokey Bear's ass will change your mind.

This is one of the toughest jobs out there. Men and women just recently lost their lives and we are remembering the 19 men that lost their lives 13 years ago
