Sir Patrick Stewart & Sir Ian McKellen were born to act together. Long before they were both knighted, the two actors first crossed paths while working at the Royal Shakespeare Company in the UK. However, they didn’t become close friends at the time; Stewart initially found McKellen intimidating, austere, and aloof. But nearly three decades later, the two found themselves sharing the screen here in X-Men. I can only imagine how McKellen feels right now. My heart breaks for him & Stewart’s entire inner circle.

> be Patrick Stewart > grow up in a house with no bathroom or hot water > discover acting and feel safe on stage > lose your hair by 19 > think your romantic life is over > become a Shakespearean actor > spend years performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company > get offered the role of Captain Picard at 47 > be told by Ian McKellen not to take it > take it anyway > play Picard for more than 35 years > become Professor X along the way > reunite with McKellen as Magneto > get knighted by Queen Elizabeth II > speak publicly about the violence you witnessed as a child > help women and children facing domestic abuse > die at 86 > leave behind characters that millions grew up with I grew up seeing him on screen. I think part of me expected him to always be there. Rest in peace, Patrick...

People often talk about Michael Fassbender, but Ian McKellen was fantastic as Magneto too. He gave us one of the most brutal kills in the entire saga.
